Blueberry Offers Something Different

The €58 Romper My Son Wore Once

It was adorable. Navy with tiny wooden buttons. Soft cotton. Boutique brand. And it cost me €58. My son wore it exactly once — for 22 minutes — before he spit up all over it and outgrew it a week later.

I wish I could say that was the only time I overspent on baby clothing, but it wasn’t. Like so many parents, I wanted my baby to look cute, feel comfy, and have the best. But somewhere between those dreamy first outfits and a drawer full of barely-worn over-priced sweaters, I realized something wasn’t working.

We were spending way too much on clothes that barely got used. There had to be a better way.

There Wasn't a Great Solution Out There

Out of curiosity and a bit of desperation, I started looking for second hand baby clothes online. Of course there's Vinted, there's Facebook Marketplace and a few other online shops that were a bit more boutique-y, but still not quite what I was looking for.  I don't want or need a designer second-hand baby sweater for €100, even though it retails for €300.  No thanks, not my thing.  And I also didn't want to spend an hour scrolling through 100,000 items and buying from an anonymous person who posted a fuzzy picture of the item on their bathroom floor.  No thanks, also not my thing.  I was really struggling to find a shop that offered quality, curated, cute items that were in great shape at a great price with brands I would normally shop from - Jacadi, Petit Bateau, Catimini, etc. that also felt trustworthy.  I really couldn't find anything.

Out of curiosity I tried buying from a few of these places but they all fell short. The shipping took forever, the item was definitely not in the condition pictured, or the value simply wasn't there.

I realized there was a gap in the second-hand market for children's clothing and perhaps it was something I could build.

The Stigma

There’s still a weird stigma around second hand baby clothing, and honestly, I think it’s outdated. This isn’t about stained onesies in a bin somewhere. I’m talking about quality-checked, gently-used, stylish baby clothes from brands like Petit Bateau, Mayoral, and Catimini.

Especially in the newborn and infant stages, babies grow so fast that most clothes are barely worn. Some are never worn at all. That means when you shop second hand — or pre-loved, as I like to call it — you’re getting amazing value and almost-new condition, without the price tag or the waste.

And when it’s curated right (like we do at Blueberry), you don’t have to dig through racks. You just find the pieces you love and get on with your day — feeling good about your purchase in every way.

Saving Money Without Sacrificing Style

I used to think “style” meant brand-new outfits straight off the rack. Now, I see it differently. My baby’s best looks are a mix of second-hand treasures, smart basics, and a few standout pieces — all chosen with care.

Take for example this Ralph Lauren Shirtdress that normally retails for €115 - it's in perfect condition and priced at €34 on Blueberry.  These are the types of finds that I love to offer customers on the store.

Final Thoughts – Smarter, Better

Blueberry is still evolving, but even in its early days I think it offers conscious parents a smarter choice when shopping for baby and children's clothing.  It fills a gap that I hope other parents find valuable.  In addition, but perhaps more importantly it's an easy way to live more sustainably which I think we're all trying to do these days.

Shop smarter and shop better with Blueberry.
